1. Beware of starting most sentences and paragraphs with “I” in order to avoid coming across as overly me-centric.
Instead of saying “I have gained extensive experience in…” say something like, “As you’ll see, my career has included extensive experience in…” or “The extensive experience I have in…”
2. Use bullets to reduce the repetitious use of “I” and to make it easier for the reader to follow your points. For example:
As you’ll see, my career has included extensive experience in:
- ABC…
- XYZ…
- 123…
3. Use confident language and avoid wimpy words like “believe” and “hope.”
Instead of saying, “I believe my combination of experience will…” say, “I am confident that my combination of experience is…” Instead of saying “I hope to hear from you,” say that you will follow up on such and such date. And then, of course, follow up on such and such date.
